Dermapen Micro-needling

Having HEALTHy SKIN will respond better and results will last longer. Skin cells need nutrients for best results. Preparing the skin for micro-needling procedure will ensure optimum results. As with all cosmetic treatments, the ideal candidate should have a realistic expectations and be in generally good health.

• Take oral supplements such as: essential fatty acids,  and multivitamins (you will be instructed with specific supplementation and what dose to take depending on what treatment protocol and your health conditon)
• For best results and to reduce the risk of complications, specific Pre/Post homecare products/protocol kits serve as Non-Negotiables to ensure the best results when combined with Dermapen micro-needling procedures. You will be recommended to start using the home care products 10 to 14 days prior to your treatment and may vary depending on your current health condition.
• Avoid high dose of topical Vitamin A
• Sun exposure and/or usage of a tanning bed, including self-tanning products must be avoided for 7 days before and after the treatment. Treatment within 24 hours of prolonged sun exposure (natural sunlight, artificial tanning booth, or sunless tanning products) may result in hypopigmentation (white spots) or hyperpigmentation (dark spots) that may not clear for several months or may even be permanent. A Microneedling treatment will not be administered on sunburned skin.
• Accutane and any other photosensitizing medication should be discontinued for a period of at least 6 months prior to receiving treatment and should not be used during your course of treatment.
• No area to be treated should receive any type of Chemical Peel for 2 weeks prior and after treatment.
• Retin-A, Renova, and Tazorac must not be used for 1 week prior or after treatment.
• Waxing and/or use of chemical depilatories must be avoided for 2 weeks prior and after the treatment. Shaving is allowed immediately before treatment and 48-72 hours after treatment as long as there is no skin irritation.
• You may not be pregnant for this treatment.
• Notify the provider of any tattoos, including cosmetic tattooing, in the vicinity of the area to be treated as tattoos must be avoided.
• If you have history of cold sores, I may recommend prophylactic antiviral therapy in the form of Valtrex® or Aycylovir. If so, follow the directions for your prescription.
• During the course of your treatment, notify your practitioner of any changes to your medical history, health status, or personal activities that may be relevant to your treatment.

BE CERTAIN TO ADHERE TO THE FOLLOWING POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

USE THE RECOMMENDED POST-TREATMENT HOME CARE PRODUCT.

• CLEAN – Use a soothing/gentle cleanser (Tri-Phase Cleanser) with tepid water to cleanse the face and gently dry the treated skin. Always make sure that your hands are clean when touching the treated area. Use the recommended Post-Treatment home care product.
• HEAL – Copper based skincare is recommended post-treatment as the mineral properties are ideal to help heal the skin. 
• HYDRATE – Following your Dermapen treatment, your skin may feel drier than normal. Hyaluronic Acid is an ideal ingredient to hydrate and restore the skin back to perfect balance. 
• STIMULATE – In the days following your micro-needling treatment, and as the skin starts to regenerate, collagen stimulating peptides are ideal to continue the stimulation.
• MAKEUP – It is recommended that makeup should not be applied for 12hrs after the procedure. Do not apply any makeup with a makeup brush, especially if it is not clean.
• PROTECT SPF – Cover Recover immediately after treatment and as an everyday breathable camouflage. Otherwise, follow as advised. 
•  

CLIENTS ARE ADVISED TO AVOID THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES AND PRACTICES FOR AT LEAST 2 DAYS POST-TREATMENT:

• Avoid direct sun exposure
• Do not perform any vigorous exercise 
• Further clinical treatments (including, but not limited to): microdermabrasion, laser, intense pulsed light, chemical peels, muscle relaxant injections and dermal fillers
• Tattooing (including cosmetic tattooing)
• Applying high dosages of active topical skin care ingredients (including, but not limited to): retinoids, hydroquinone, alpha-hydroxy-acids, beta-hydroxy-acids, benzoyl  peroxide, alcohol (ethanol/isoprophyl), chemical based sunscreens
• Excessive hot showers, bathing, spas or sauna
• Spray or self tanning
• Swimming in chlorinated pools or the ocean

Micro-needling may trigger a cold sore response in clients and a prophylaxis medication should be recommended to those who are prone to breakouts.

TREATMENT RECOVERY TIMELINE:

Recovery varies on each individual health condition. Erythema and or red appearance and severity will and depends upon how aggressive the treatment was performed.

• Up to 24 hours: Clients may resume work or normal activities almost immediately post-treatment. Cover Recover may be applied following post-treatment procedures to conceal any erythema and to deliver an anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and cooling effect, enhanced with a broad-spectrum SPF 30.

• Day 1: Post-treatment, erythema similar to the appearance and sensation of mild sunburns an indication of successful treatment. For the first 1-3 days the skin might be dry and feel tight. 
• Day 1-2: Mild erythema might persists like a minimum sunburn. For some clients might experience minor itching, tight sensation or swelling on the treated areas following the treatment, maybe still noticeable on the second day. 
• Day 2-3-: Skin may be pink and or back to normal color, fading of petechiae, reduced itching,  and minor skin flaking.  Petechiae may appear on areas of thing or more delicate skin especially around the peri-orbital area. Pinpoint bleeding can be expected and is very minimal in most cases. Client's on anticoagulant medications or supplements will be more prone to pinpoint bleeding/petechiae. It may last for 2-3 days before eventually dissolving.
• Day 3-4: Potential slight dryness
• Day 4-5: Full recovery with normalized function

Contraindications and precautions include: 

• History of eczema, psoriasis and other chronic conditions
• History of actinic (solar) keratosis
• History of Herpes Simplex infections
• History of diabetes
• Keloid or raised scarring
• Presence of raised moles, warts or any raised lesions on targeted area.

Absolute contraindications include:

• Scleroderma and collagen vascular diseases
• Rosacea and blood clotting problems
• Active bacterial or fungal infections
• Immuno-supression
• Scars more than 6 months old.
• Facial fillers in the past 6 months
• Micro-needling is not recommended for pregnant or lactating women due to a number of minor reasons. The needles produce micro-injuries which trigger the natural wound healing response. This wound healing and production of new collagen requires vitamins and nutrients which would otherwise be needed for the baby so is suggested to not be used during pregnancy.
